After a two year break, Al Melling, a highly acclaimed racing engine designer and developer, recently returned to the Autódromo at Portimão to set up MCD Partnership, a new company, with Phil Egginton and Beverley Ellison of Peninsula Motorsport.
The original MCD will remain based in the north west of England but the design and development side of the business will now operate from the Algarve.
Al Melling, who will act as a consultant for the business, has more than 40 years experience in engine and vehicle design, working with clients such as Porsche, Ferrari, Lambourghini and Jaguar.
His expertise has taken him all over the world with motorsport design, including Formula One engines for clients March and Lola and the Silk Cut Jaguars that won Le Mans 24-hour race.
“We are so thrilled to be working with one of the world’s top engineers. We are planning some really exciting developments,” said Phil Egginton.
MCD will be able to design, develop and manufacture racing and performance engines and cars, transmissions, suspensions and other vehicle components. All works will be documented in photo and video for the client and fully guaranteed.
Their experience includes all types of vehicles, including racing cars, road cars, superbikes, karting, sports aircraft and powerboats.
MCD are already working on a new single-seater racing car with a 5-litre engine. Similar projects are in the pipeline, including a Le Mans racing car and other Formula One single-seaters.
Al Melling said: “The Algarve is a great place to live and work. We welcome our clients to come and spend some time in the sun and see their projects being worked upon.”
