A NEW survey claims that airport crime is rife, and that women are 14 per cent more likely to be victims of airport crime than men, despite the high levels of security in airports. According to the figures released by Options Travel Insurance, Italian airports are the worst in Europe for crime, with 53 per cent more incidents recorded there than in second-placed Spain. Albania has the worst airport for pickpockets specifically, with Spain and Italy again making up the top three.
The survey also showed that, although more than eight in 10 people (85 per cent) have flown to a European country, many still fail to take out insurance or report crimes to the police. It claims that 30 per cent of crime victims did not report the crime to the police and one in five victims of crime were uninsured.
