Aiming for glory at Portugal Masters

Following the Ryder Cup excitement at Gleneagles, there is now an even greater sense of anticipation as the Portugal Masters 2014 draws closer. From October 9-12 at the magnificent Oceânico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura, a world class field, including victorious Gleneagles captain Paul McGinley, will compete in one of the most keenly anticipated events on the European Tour. Englishman David Lynn defends the title he won in 2013 and former winners Steve Webster (2007), Alvaro Quiros (2008) and Shane Lowry (2012) are among this year’s elite field. Also aiming for victory is 21-year-old Matteo Manassero who is determined to become the first Italian winner of this prestigious competition.
“The Portugal Masters is one of my favourite events of the season,” said Manassero. “I’ve managed to win every season on The European Tour since 2010, but so far in 2014 I’ve yet to win a title and hopefully the Portugal Masters will be a good chance to do it.”
As the Masters takes place towards the end of the European Tour season, it invariably provides dramatic action. Guaranteeing a memorable spectacle, top international players will again compete for glory and a share of this year’s €2,000,000 prize fund before the season ends.
The event is a firm favourite with players and fans, and coverage on Sky Sports also ensures that live action from the beautiful Algarve is seen across the globe.
The Portuguese challenge is spearheaded by Vilamoura-born Ricardo Santos who, with invaluable experience of the tournament and the Oceânico Victoria Course, harbours realistic hopes of providing a home success.
Whoever triumphs at the Portugal Masters 2014 will join the distinguished company of golfers to have won this prestigious event. As players and fans anticipate another unforgettable competition, the countdown to this year’s event has indeed begun.
