In Portugal, there are 42,000 HIV/Aids sufferers. António Diniz, coordinator for the national HIV/Aids programme, said this week that the main risk groups in the country were gay men, prisoners and drug users. He feared the economic crisis could lead to new cases of HIV infection while he hoped mother to child transmission of HIV would decrease and screening tests improve.
