A LEADING Algarve hotel and tourism organisation has backed the government’s decision to build a new international airport in Alcochete, south of Lisbon.
Elidérico Viegas, president of AHETA, said that the decision is confirmation of the Algarve’s importance in the country’s touristic sector.
The Associação dos Hotéis e Empreendimentos Turísticos do Algarve (AHETA) is one of the most important private associations representing the region’s touristic economic activity.
In an interview with the Lusa news agency, Elidérico Viegas said the Algarve business community has been backing an airport on the south side of the Tejo River since 1999.
