In a bid to ensure everyone is aware that water is a scarce commodity and that we should use it as responsibly as possible, regional water authority Águas do Algarve has launched an awareness campaing that will feature workshops and roadshows and see the entity taking part in several events around the Algarve.
“We are experiencing a perioud of drought,” AdA spokesperson Teresa Fernandes told Barlavento newspaper.
“Even though we have enough water to last us until the end of the year, we don’t know what will happen in the future. Águas do Algarve is worried and wants to act on all fronts because, according to the latest information, forecasts are terrible as it rained so little,” she explained.
As Fernandes points out, something has to be done now to explain to people how devastating it would be if the region’s water reserves approached their end while there is still time.
“When you open the tap and nothing comes out, it will be too late”.
