Agency to develop western Algarve

Seven Câmaras in the western Barlavento area of the Algarve have joined forces to create a new agency to link businesses in both the private and public sector.

This development agency, Agência de Desenvolvimento do Barlavento, is to be split into two areas, one for the urban areas of Portimão, Lagos, Lagoa and Silves, while the other will concentrate on the rural Câmaras of Monchique, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur.

It is hoped that the agency will help bring cohesion to businesses and their objectives in the region.

Portimão Câmara President Manuel da Luz said: “There are Câmaras that are having difficulty in feeling represented by existing associations.”

He added: “It is an opportunity to develop city policy and innovation projects as well as new opportunities.” The agency is scheduled to have its first meeting at Portimão’s new municipal theatre on January 26.
