Two charity swims will be held on the beach in Armação de Pêra to raise funds for local children in need. The first will be on Christmas Day (December 25) and the other on New Year’s Day (January 1), both commencing at 11am. Participants should meet at the Holiday Inn Algarve Hotel.
Bring your swimwear and a towel and have a dip in the ocean or just a paddle – as long as a part of you gets wet! The brave swimmers will then be invited to recover in the Holiday Inn bar while enjoying a Hot Bomba on Christmas Day or a Hot Chocolate on New Year’s Day.
To add to the fun, organisers suggest participants wear a Santa Suit on Christmas Day and their pyjamas on New Year’s Day!
“Adults and children are all welcome to take part on the understanding that they do so at their own risk,” say organisers. “Please bring a donation and help us to raise money for needy families in Armação de Pêra as well as A Gaivota children’s home in Albufeira.”
Meanwhile, on December 7, nearly 200 people dressed as Santa took part in the eighth Armação de Pêra Santa Parade, organised by the Junta de Freguesia de Armação de Pêra, BTT Algarve Maniacs, Urban Gym and the Holiday Inn Algarve.
Urban Gym provided warm up exercises. Participants chose to either walk or ride a bike, guided by BTT Algarve Maniacs. The Santa Parade began through the streets of Armação de Pêra and it was quite a sight to see so many Santas setting off on their walk together.
Thanks went to the participants, those who came to watch and all who donated boxes full of food and just over €150 for needy families.
