afpop has joined the global Movember movement
Portugal’s largest foreign residents’ association, afpop, will hold a talk on prostate cancer awareness at the HPA Hospital in Alvor next Thursday (November 23) as part of its Movember campaign.
The event will begin at 10.30am and last approximately one hour, with a free PCA screening available for anyone who would like one.
HPA urologist, Dr Tiago Rodrigues, will give a presentation on the causes, symptoms and treatments available in Portugal and be on hand to answer questions after the presentation.
The event is free to attend, but afpop asks that anyone who would like to attend contact the afpop office at [email protected] to reserve their place.
“If this event is oversubscribed we will arrange a second date with Dr. Rodrigues,” afpop says.
The association’s CEO, Michael Reeve, has been encouraging everyone to join its Movember campaign, which began on November 1 and aims to highlight men’s health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer.
It is open to all men who want to take part and who will grow a moustache starting on November 1. Towards the end of the month, all who have joined the campaign will be invited to send a photo to the afpop ‘Whatsapp’ number (+351) 912 567 902. Photos will be uploaded to the afpop Facebook page and also to the BLiP website for people to see how many are taking apart in the challenge.
Anyone who has grown a moustache as part of the Movember campaign can also register by sending a photograph of their moustache by Whatsapp to the afpop number.
“Of course you can send a photo without wishing to take part in the HPA information session, but please indicate whether you want to attend the presentation when you send your photograph,” the association adds.
