afpop open golf day success

Golfers from across the Algarve came together on May 10 to take part in the afpop open golf tournament at Pestana Alto golf club, in Alvor, where the Texas Scramble format allowed those of all standards to enjoy a competitive round of golf in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Michael Reeve, afpop CEO, told the Algarve Resident: “afpop events focus on inclusion and enjoyment. Not everybody likes the intensity of competition and this format allows everyone to enjoy a competitive element to their game but with the emphasis strictly on enjoyment.”

Also on the day was the chance to win a new Ford KA for anyone able to hit a hole in one on one of the par three holes. Nobody won but the closest anyone came was hitting the flag!

Janet Tartaglia of Lloyd & Whyte International, sponsors of the hole in one prize, said: “It would have been wonderful to have been able to hand over the keys to a brand new motor car to one of the golfers, however, it has been a delight to have been able to support afpop at the tournament.”

Prizes were awarded to the winners by afpop President, Christopher Stephen.

He said: “Thanks to all the sponsors and supporters of the tournament and on behalf of afpop, I would like to congratulate those golfers who played and made the day so enjoyable.”
