afpop, the largest association for foreign residents in Portugal, is holding a series of coffee mornings on February 29 to celebrate the leap year and mark the first of the association’s 25th anniversary events.
In keeping with leap year tradition, they have a proposal for people on that date.
Those who visit one of the coffee mornings and join the association will receive two memberships for the price of one.
As well as this, former members whose membership lapsed before December 31, 2011 will not have to pay a re-joining fee.
afpop CEO Michael Reeve said: “It has always been apparent that a large percentage of people who let their afpop membership slip by do so only because they simply forget to renew, or perhaps are away when the renewal is due.
“Once they then receive the notification that their membership is lapsed, they simply accept that and don’t get around to rectifying the problem.”
He added: “We know this because we meet people often who tell us they don’t know why they left and who subsequently re-join, having missed a lot of valuable information and potential support, as well as saving themselves money on a large number of financial member benefits in the meantime.
“We decided to take the leap year opportunity to propose to them instead of hoping that they would propose to us and we invite those people to re-join without worrying about repaying a joining fee and also offer them the second membership free in the first year.”
All coffee mornings will take place between 10.30am and 12.30pm and afpop Area Event Organisers and office staff will be on hand to welcome you.
The afpop Leap Year Proposal and coffee and cakes will be offered at the following locations:
• Monchique/Portimão area: Vila Foia, Monchique
• Albufeira area – Glenridge Resort, Vale Parra
• Lagos area: – Boavista Golf, Lagos
• Eastern area: – Bowling Club Pedras da Rainha, Cabanas
• Silves/Carvoeiro – Carvoeiro Clube de Ténis
