It is eight years since children’s charity ACCA launched its annual bike ride and the 2017 run raised €7,000 which will go towards the causes it supports.
ACCA’s president Wanda Crawford, who master-minded the event from the start, says she is delighted with the growing interest and enthusiasm of cyclists who this year chose to cover routes of 25km, 50km or 75km, mapped out by Paul Beesley of Algarve Bike Holidays.
Sponsors this year included Abacus, Curiosa, Quinta Properties, Atelier do Sul and Invesco; the Conrad, a major supporter of ACCA, provided the auction prizes, which raised over €3,500, and laid on a buffet for the keen cyclists who worked up an appetite on their journey.
Meanwhile, the annual Children’s Day event in Almancil, sponsored by ACCA and local businesses, proved to be a huge success ensuring that more youngsters than ever had something to smile about.
Organised by APEEVA, the parents’ association of a group of Almancil schools, and MudaKi, the government-funded body that aims to help foreign children and those from poor families settle in the area, the special day is designed to provide a wide range of fun activities in which all local schools can take part.
