ACCA raises over 27,000 euros for children

news: ACCA raises over 27,000 euros for children

SOLHEIM CUP players, Elizabeth Esterl and Ana B. Sanchez, were among the 15 Lady Pros on the LPGA European Tour, who gave their time to play in ACCA’s (Associação de Solidariedade com as Crianças Carenciadas do Algarve) fifth Pro-Am to raise money for youngsters in need throughout the Algarve.

The Pros and players alike agreed the Victoria Course in Vilamoura (home to this year’s World Cup in November) is truly a world class course, and gusty winds made their play even more challenging. ACCA gives thanks to Constantino Jordan of Lusotur Golfe, who generously donated the tee times.

Germany’s Elizabeth Esterl brought home the winning team of Liz Healey, Jan Gelineck, Majeda Lester and Lubna Sands, with Spain’s Marta Prieto coming in second and Carmen Alonso, also from Spain, in third place.

A stupendous 27,460 euros was raised during the day and evening, with the support also of many sponsors, including Dunas Douradas Group, Auto Jardim, Nokia and restaurants Ermitage, Vincent, Caso do Campo, 2 Passos and São Gabriel, among many others.

ACCA does not give money to individuals or institutions but purchases pre-agreed items or goods, checks installations and follows up to see all is well. The monies raised at this event is going to a heating system for Obra da Nossa Senhora das Candeiras in Olhão, a new plumbing system for Gaivota in Albufeira, and beds and bedding for Casa dos Rapazes in Faro. Any funds remaining will go to medical care for individual children.

Look out for more ACCA fund-raising events later in the year, including more golf days, the annual Fun Run and the special Angel Programme, all in aid of children throughout the Algarve.
