The Council of Ministers has approved new discounts of up to 25% on the country’s ‘ex-SCUT’ highways, including the Algarve’s A22 motorway (also known as Via do Infante).
But there’s a catch: the discounts will only be “applied on the eighth day of use” in a month for class 1 and 2 vehicles. In other words, drivers can only enjoy the discount after using the road seven times in a month.
Vehicles must also be equipped with a Via Verde electronic device for toll charges.
Also approved were higher discounts for heavy cargo vehicles, which have increased from 30% to 50% during the day and 35% to 55% at night.
Minister for Territorial Cohesion Ana Abrunhosa said the new discounts aim to “promote territorial cohesion” as well as reduce accidents on alternative roads, such as the Algarve’s EN125.
These discounts will also be applied on the following motorways: A4 – Sendim/Águas Santas, A4 – Túnel do Marão, A4 – Vila Real-Bragança (Quintanilha), A13 – Atalaia (A23)/Coimbra Sul, A13-1, A17 – Mira/Aveiro Nascente (IP5), , A23, A24, A25, A28, A29, A41 – Freixieiro/Ermida (IC 25) and A42.
