A cello has been made entirely from Lego by an artist – and, more astonishingly, it is functional.
Artist Nathan Sawaya admitted that his creation sounds “different” to normal cellos, which are usually made from spruce and maple wood.
The artist has released a YouTube video showing the construction process, which involved thousands of Lego bricks.
Sawaya, who is based in New York, works almost exclusively in the medium of Lego. His previous creations include building block versions of the Statue of Liberty. The Lego cello is the artist’s first attempt at instrument-making. Works by Sawaya are currently touring North American museums in a show titled The Art of the Brick.
