The 2022 FEDESSA Conference held in Portugal for the first time gathered 700 people in Vilamoura
Nearly 700 people attended the 22nd edition of the biggest self-storage event outside the USA at the end of September. The Federation of European Self-Storage Associations (FEDESSA) annual conference took place in Vilamoura and was a resounding success.
The three-day conference included a trade show – the largest ever in Europe – as well as a wide range of panel sessions, presentations, and product demonstrations. One of the conference’s highlights was a tour of the Securum Self Storage premises, a state-of-the-art self-storage facility in Loulé.
The site, which opened its doors in 2021 and is owned by Swedish entrepreneurs Maria and Ulf Christiansson, is the most advanced and modern facility of its kind in Portugal, using the latest technology in not only climate control and security, but also in remote-access digital locks, thus enabling a completely new level of flexibility, accessibility and security for its customers in the Algarve.

However, the environment is changing quickly, and it has the potential to become one of the most important in Europe. FEDESSA has obviously seen that and thus decided to hold its yearly conference and trade show here. The last time it took place – as it has not happened for the past two years because of COVID – they had 800 people attending in London. There were nearly 700 in Vilamoura, so the numbers kind of say it all!”, he adds.
For exhibitors, this conference is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to market to self-storage owners, operators and investors from all across Europe, including the UK. This year’s event was even more focused on networking and interaction between delegates, including two dinners, a drinks function in the trade show, pre-arrival social activities, and Securum Self Storage’s facility tour.
