A top quality Alentejo Syrah

A top quality Alentejo Syrah

I picked this wine up at the Apolónia Wine Fair last week whilst it was on special offer, and regret not having got a few more bottles, the usual price being €29.95.

Expensive, yes, but this is a rather special Syrah made in the style of high-quality Aussie Shiraz.

The wine is from the 2018 vintage and, looking at the producer’s website, no other Syrah varietal has yet been released, so I expect it spent a commendable couple of years bottle-ageing in their cellars (after a year in new French oak).

This wine is ready for drinking right now and has a luscious New World Shiraz style nose with mature cherry and raspberry mingling with chocolate and hints of spice.

Medium- to full-bodied and fresh in the mouth, supple tannins lead to a silky-smooth finish. Perfect to accompany roast or BBQ lamb dishes.
