Members of the Algarve Wine Society travelled to the Estremoz area of northern Alentejo last week for a three-day visit to several of the best small, but high quality, wineries in the region.
The group’s first port of call was the Adega Monte dos Perdigões winery in Reguengos, where each member received a bottle of Perdigoes Tinto Reserva 2002 personalised with their name.
Next followed a tasting at the Adega Dona Maria and trip to the Quinta do Carmo, one of the Rothchild’s properties in Portugal, tasting the best Dona Maria wines. The five course gala dinner was accompanied by five of the best Esporão wines, all presented by a sommelier of Adega Esporão.
The final day started at the Adega Herdade de Calada with a tasting of their high quality wines and olive oil and continued with a tasting and tour of the Adega Herdade de Coelheiros in Igrejinha.
The next activity planned by the Algarve Wine Society will be their traditional Christmas lunch at the Amadeus restaurant in Almancil on Wednesday, December 13, and Friday, December 15.
