The Clay Oven is a stylish new Indian restaurant situated in a central location between Montechoro and Albufeira. Owners, Jay and Meena Ruperelia, set out to create a modern ambience in their new restaurant, which blends uniquely with tasty Indian dishes, cooked in traditional clay Tandoori ovens fired up to 1,000oc. They have more than succeeded in their aim. When it comes to the menu, meals can be created to please – they range from mild through to very hot, and make full use of spices and chillies. The Clay Oven also offers a variety of Indian desserts, and, somewhat surprisingly, a Tiramisu that needs to be tasted to be believed.
The Italian connection comes from Jay and Meena’s previous resturant. They ran a successful pizzeria for eight years before opening the Clay Oven, and intend to carry on this tradition, serving quality pizzas with some surprising toppings, including chicken Tikka, sheesh and vegetarian kebab, amongst other more traditional ingredients.
The Clay Oven has seating for 50 and is open for lunch from 11.45am to 3pm. Evening meals are served from 6.30pm until late. However, pizzas and drinks can be ordered all day and a full takeaway service is available.
You’ll find the Clay Oven in Vila Mirra, between the worms and the globe roundabouts, towards Areias de São João. For bookings, call 914 216 286.
