A SPECIAL calendar is being released today (Friday) in several shops in the Algarve entitled Rescue Dogs and the People Who Love Them. The money raised by the calendar sales is going to Quintinha dos Animais in Goldra, near Faro.
“It’s all in black and white and the last two pages after December have pictures of the dogs involved in the project, with a description of their story,” said Roxanne Charley, one of the authors of the calendar, adding that “some of the stories are quite extraordinary”.
Roxanne had the idea for the calendar in the spring. “After the idea popped up in my head, I talked about it with a friend, Ingrid Moody, who is very involved in animal rescue, to help.”
The calendar, she told The Resident, features 12 people who have rescued dogs and brought them into their homes and lives. The photographs were taken by local photographer Sally Mulholland, who donated her time to photograph the subjects.
The calendar costs 12 euros; just 400 were printed and 200 have already been reserved by people who knew about it or are involved in dog rescue charities.
It is available from today at the Griffin Bookshop, Camelia’s Quinta Shopping, Dunas Quinta Shopping, Phillippe Stabile Salon, in Almancil, Canham Veterinarian Clinic, in Areeiro, Papa’s Pet Supply, Stride Rite and Cards 4 U, Shakespeare’s Restaurant, in Vilamoura, and La Dolce Vita, in Almancil.
