A runaway success

ATHLETES OF all shapes, sizes and ages have joined the two running groups that have been set up in preparation for the final 10km of the 2girls2run charity campaign on May 10, which anyone is welcome to join.

The 2girls2run campaign sees local residents Shirley Emílio and Amanda Mortimer run 215km across the Algarve, in aid of Algarve based children’s charity ACCA and the UK’s Jane’s Appeal. Their dedication to this task has inspired many people to join the two running groups at Barringtons Golf and Health Spa in Vale do Lobo and Silves Municipal Swimming Pool.

Four weeks since joining the Barringtons group, Trish Quinlan said: “I am already running 3.75Km non-stop, marching up the hills of the Algarve without stopping, and have been welcomed into the arms of a group of truly great, fun and lively women.”

Silves group member Jane Hazeldine said: “It was like a breath of fresh air. Encouragement abounded. Friendliness overflowed and the organisers knew what they were doing as they had all experienced starting to run.”

The running group at Barringtons meets every Sunday at 10am and the Silves group meets every Wednesday, at 7.30pm.

The groups are free to join and open to people over the age of 14. They are especially geared towards beginners but all runners are welcome.

For more information about the Barringtons running group, please call Wanda Crawford on 919 617 995 and call Sue Howard on 913 651 466 for information on the Silves running group. Runners can also just turn up at either group on the day.
