A mobile bookstore called “Tell a Story” and aimed at foreign book lovers in Lisbon can now be seen travelling the capital’s streets selling books by 11 Portuguese authors in four languages – English, French, Spanish and German.
Tourists, for example, can learn more about Portuguese literature in a language that they understand while also discovering the country through the eyes of national authors.
Domingos Cruz, who is behind the project, feels Portugal is still too focused on promoting the writings of poet Fernando Pessoa to international readers, when other authors such as Eça de Queiroz, Miguel Torga and Sophia de Mello Breyner have not been afforded the same privilege.
