An evening of magic, mirth and music will be held at Valverde Restaurant, near Praia da Luz, on Friday May 20 at 7pm, to raise much-needed funds for the Lagos Bombeiros.
The event, organised by afpop, Portugal’s largest association for foreign residents, includes entertainment by magician ‘The Great Martini’ during the three-course meal, after-dinner speaker Doug McAdam, a banjo-led sing-along by Peter Holliday, a raffle, and professional musician Richard Valentine, who will top the bill with music to get everyone on the dance floor.
Richard, who is travelling from Vilamoura to perform, has kindly donated his fee to get the fund rolling.
Pat Allen, who is organising the event on behalf of afpop, told the Algarve Resident: “We all know how tirelessly the Bombeiros work providing the ambulance, fire and rescue services and in these times of cut-backs, we all need to enable them to continue to protect and help us.
“In the season which often culminates in forest fires, you can support your local Bombeiros while appreciating a good meal and enjoying four great acts.”
Tickets cost €20 for afpop members and €23 for non-members and include a donation for the Bombeiros.
The restaurant will be laid out to include eight people to a table, so large groups are welcome.
“If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation to the Bombeiros fund, there is an account already set up which can accept one off payments or an annual amount, however small, which goes to help maintain the services which we rely on so much,” said Pat Allen.
