A New Year night to remember

news: A New Year night to remember

ALBUFEIRA Câmara has announced that rock star Bryan Adams will perform a free concert at Fisherman’s Beach, Albufeira, on New Year’s Eve. The singer, who has enjoyed a string of major hits, including Night to Remember, Summer of 69 and Everything I Do, is set to perform just after midnight following a spectacular firework display.

The concert and fireworks on December 31 represent an investment of more than half a million euros and are sure to make Albufeira a hot spot for New Year celebrations this year.

Bryan Adams is currently on a worldwide tour to promote his new album, Room Service, and is already due to perform in Lisbon at the Pavilhão Atlântico on January 30, and on February 1 in Porto, but obviously he just couldn’t wait to bring his show to Portugal.

The surprise announcement has come as very welcome news for all those in the Algarve who have been looking for a way to see in the New Year in style as Bryan is expected to perform all his biggest hits. The fireworks alone are rumoured to cost around 150,000 euros and will apparently be set off from six different locations along the coast, ensuring a fantastic spectacle as the clocks turn midnight.

Portuguese band, The Fingertips, will get the party started at 11pm and will perform on an enormous stage that the câmara claims is the largest in Portugal at 42 metres in width and 16 metres high. We are also promised 80,000 watts of sound and 300,000 watts of light for what is guaranteed to be a really fantastic stage show. Following the enormous success of the free Cliff Richard concert, which was held at Fisherman’s Beach in August this year, the Câmara has put plenty of transport and parking plans into place to ensure ease of access on the night. The south of Avenue dos Descobrimentos will be completely closed to traffic from 9pm on December 31 and special car parks are going to be created to cope with all the extra vehicles. A bus transfer service is also to be run to bring people from the car parks to the concert site. The evening of entertainment has been made possible thanks to funding from ATA, the business and tourism association that represents Algarve businesses, Albufeira Câmara and donations from several local companies, in a bid to boost tourist numbers over the holiday period.
