A new way to carry currency abroad

A new currency card has been launched by Global Currency Exchange Network designed to give travellers, business executives and holiday makers a safe and secure alternative to cash when spending overseas.

The new pre-paid card does not work like a normal debit or credit card. Instead it is a pre-paid top up card, similar to topping up a pay-as-you-go mobile phone, with users able to spend as much as they choose to load onto the card.

Travellers can use the card, in Euros or US Dollars, anywhere the MasterCard logo is displayed, including thousands of restaurants and shops, on the internet and at any cash point displaying the MasterCard logo.

Alison Daun from Global Currency Exchange Network based in Lagos said: “The card has a secure CHIP and PIN function which ensures that you are protected against theft or loss and you don’t have to worry about carrying large amounts of cash around with you.”

She added: “The card is with you for as long as you want. Any unspent funds on your card can be saved until your next trip and you can continue to use it as a savings account by topping up as and when you can afford it, alternatively you can change part or all of the balance back to sterling at any time.” The cards are instantly available to any UK resident over the age of 18 and can be applied for online at www.gcen.co.uk
