The Algarve Resident newspaper is currently in the process of changing hands and will become part of Open Media S.A. by the end of this month.
Our existing offices will be closing as of the end of March, and in the meantime, the newspaper will be integrated into the Lagoa offices of Open Media in Parque Empresarial do Algarve, in Lagoa, where extra office space has been secured to accommodate members of the Algarve Resident team.
Open Media publishes the Essential group of magazines, along with other titles such as “12”, a Portuguese language watch magazine, and the localised Inside magazines.
Over the last year, Open Media has also been expanding internationally, launching Essential Macau last March in the ex-Portuguese colony as a bilingual Chinese/English magazine and Essential London, to be launched on April 2 targeting Chinese tourists and investors in London.
Other new projects include Essential Kuala Lumpur to be launched in the Malaysian capital this summer.
The Algarve Resident’s Sheena Rawcliffe will remain on board as will Mark Rawcliffe.
Editor Inês Lopes is amongst the Algarve Resident staff who will be joining Open Media.
Open Media’s founding partner and CEO Bruce Hawker welcomes the addition of the title to their portfolio of publications.
“For the past 23 years, the Algarve Resident has played an important role as the community newspaper for expatriates in the region,” he said.
“By merging the title into our operation, there are great synergies to be achieved, not only from an operational point of view but also by the pooling of creative skills and editorial ideas to take the newspaper into a new era and secure its future.”
