Little did Matt Watts know that he would be meeting one of his childhood heroes when he went along to the Olhanense Open Evening.
Matt, from Southampton and on holiday in Tavira with girlfriend Becky Wesson, is a staunch Saints fan and remembers the day Abel Xavier played at The Dell.
“He was an outstanding defender and immediately recognisable by his prominent hairstyle,” said Matt. “We’ve had a wonderful holiday and meeting Xavier was the icing on the cake. I would like to thank the Olhanense Expat Group for making it possible. I’ve now got to return to see a game or two.”
