Lions Club governor Pierluigi d’Avila (pictured left by the sign) made a special visit to the Algarve from Lisbon to unveil a road sign in Almancil on April 15.
The road sign, located in Cerro do Galo, is in honour of Marianela Vasconcelos, a past president of the Lions Club of Loulé who died in 2007.
She was a renowned journalist and artist, well known both in Portugal and abroad.
Also present at the ceremony were her widower, Ian Sewell, and son Eduardo, the President of Almancil Parish Council João Martins and members of Lions Clube de Loulé.
Meanwhile, also on April 15, the club presented Hermes Alberto (pictured right), President of ASCA, a social and cultural association in Almancil, a cheque for €4,000 to furnish a room in its newly opened home for the aged.
