To commemorate Mês do Coração (Heart Month), São Brás de Alportel Câmara has been striving to educate people about the highest cause of death in Portugal – cardiovascular disease – by promoting awareness of it throughout the month of May.
The programme, themed towards the prevention of heart disease, has included, among other activities, a Marcha Pelo Coração (March for the Heart), which took place on May 5.
The campaign has attempted to raise awareness of the dangers of obesity and its links to heart problems. It is a topic worthy of great attention, given that it is affecting a greater amount of the global population than ever before.
With the success of the Marcha Pelo Coração at the start of the month, walks will be held on the first Wednesday of every month until October. The meeting point is the Pavilhão Municipal in São Brás de Alportel at 8pm from June to August, and at 7.30pm during September and October.
