A game of two halves

news: A game of two halves

An inquest in Blackburn found that fan, Mark Houghton, 43, killed himself as his team trailed 3-0 at half-time to AC Milan in this year’s Champions League final. The team in question, Liverpool, famously recovered to take the game into extra time and win it in the subsequent penalty shoot-out. Sadly, Mark Houghton was no longer there to share in the triumph.

There are two lessons to be learned from this tragedy. First and foremost, football, or any other sport for that matter, is only a game and contrary to what Bill Shankly reputedly once said, is not at matter of life or death. Secondly, never give up hope. However bleak things might look, miracles do still happen every day, everywhere.
