THE Malhadinha Nova Vineyard south of Beja was the destination for the Almancil International Rotary Club’s first outing.
Thirty-one members were shown around the vineyard which, in less than 10 years, has established a reputation for high quality red and white wines, as well as for the breeding of the Black Pig, whose meat is much sought after by food connoisseurs. Almancil International Rotary President, Leif Axelsson, pointed out that although the club had only been in existence since May, its 35 plus members from seven nationalities demonstrated that in an area, such as the Algarve, there was a need for a branch of Rotary, the membership of which was open to residents and expatriates in the area.
João Soares, the owner of the vineyard, spoke about the process of making wine and also donated a case of wine to the club to be used for charitable purposes.
