Childhood friends of Leanne Faulkner, who lost her life to cardiac arrest in 2006 at the tender age of 15, will be hosting a fundraising Loulabell Fun Family Fete on May 27, with hopes of bringing the community together to remember a “much cherished and truly missed person”.
From noon until late, the fete will take place at the Parques das Merendas in Barão de São João.
Former classmates of Leanne at the Vale Verde International School in Burgau, Skene Fletcher-Nix and Hannah McFadden, aim to raise funds for the charity associated with Leanne, called CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), an association which raises awareness of conditions that can lead to illnesses such as Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD).
Hannah told the Algarve Resident: “We want to keep the memory of our friend alive and the name of the charity in people’s minds.
“Every year Leanne’s family does an incredible job with the Loulabell Ball, which raises money for the charity, and we wanted to make an active contribution to show that we never have, and never will, forget our friend.”
The fete will be an occasion for the whole family and will include a wide range of games to entertain the children, music throughout the afternoon, story-telling and book swapping.
Food stalls will sell barbecued snacks, including homemade burgers and a variety of vegetarian options, plus dessert stands. A bar will also serve a range of soft drinks and wine.
Skene said: “The day is really about bringing people together for a special girl and opening their hearts for a charity that has a special place in our hearts.”
All are welcome to attend the Loulabell Fun Family Fete. Sophie McCarrick
