A fair weekend

news: A fair weekend

LAST WEEKEND, The Resident was invited to three Christmas fairs in the Lisbon area and, at each one, there was an abundance of early Christmas shoppers, out to grab that special bargain.

We started at St Mary’s Church in St. Pedro do Estoril, where bargain hunters enjoyed an array of cakes and food provided by the organisers.

Then it was on to St. Dominic’s Christmas Fair in S. Domingos da Rana. So many people and so many stalls … The cake auction got underway, with auctioneer Richard Sawyer raising more money for the funds. Shoppers were well entertained with musical interludes by the school’s students.

Finally, we visited the Nordic Christmas Bazaar at its new location, the gymnasium near Cascais cemetery. If you were a book hunter, this was the place to be – a carrier bag full for only two euros! One of the highlights of the Nordic Bazaar was undoubtedly the Santa Lucia candlelight procession by the children.
