A Dutch eye on the Algarve

news: A Dutch eye on the Algarve

An exhibition by the Dutch Photo Club Boa Vista will be inaugurating in the Convento de São José in Lagoa tomorrow (March 2), featuring 150 photographs under the theme “Portugal – Seen Through Dutch Eyes”.

The show, which runs until April 13, will be opened by club president Leon Geerlings and photographers taking part are Nel and Piet Davelaar, Paul Gans, Inez Hegeman, Henk Hin, Anna Knoop, Elly Maessen, Thea Verhoeks, Jan Clemens and Rob Verhoef.

Rob Verhoef, who is the initiator of the photo club, said: “We all know the country and its people are not having an easy time at present and it would be very easy to capture this misery: desolate shopping areas, ruins, degraded houses, roads full of bumps and holes … But we have deliberately chosen a different angle on Portugal: an interesting, loving, sometimes amusing, view on the country.”

The pictures on show are the members’ own choices and include natural and urban landscapes and people portraits.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 9am to 12.30pm and 2pm and 6pm.
