The Boavista Clube de Golfe, headed by Club Golf Captain Ian Galloway, hosted a charity golf day in June for Make-a-Wish Portugal, a charity that provides wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses.
The day was organised to appeal to both golfers and non-golfers and turned out to be a resounding success. The total money raised for Make a Wish Foundation in Portugal is expected to be in excess of €12,000 and will enable those children selected by the charity to have their wishes fulfilled.
A total of 124 players participated in the Pairs Betterball Stableford and 160 people were treated to a lunch buffet.
The event was supported by Boavista and the Emerson Group, which donated the course and sponsorship for the day. Another 50 companies also joined forces with the Boavista team by sponsoring the event and contributing to the overall success of the day. In a jovial and generous mood, the crowd mingled and shopped at the various stalls which included homemade cakes and treats, used books, tombola, raffle and a used golf ball stand.
Many visitors were also pampered with the special treatments and facilities on offer by the Essential Fitness & Health Spa. Various auctions were held during the day with the final auction’s pièce de résistance being two signed Liverpool football shirts donated by John Aldridge, a former Liverpool hall of fame player.
The day ended with the presentation of the prizes to Carole Hope and David Spencer who came in first place, Pascal Kelleher and Jack Haig in second and third place went to Craig Walsh and Nigel Stringer.
