A darker shade of pink

Quinta dos Vales Dialog Night 2017

This wine was launched back in 2018 with a production of just 3,000 bottles but it was only last weekend that I noticed it on the shelf at my local Intermarché supermarket (€15.99). Dark rosé, verging almost on the hue of a light red, when well-made can be a very grown up kind of wine.

Those pale pink Provence style rosés are great for sipping by the pool or enjoying with grilled fish on the beach, but most do not make the grade as qualified gastronomic wines.

This wine, “Dialog Night” from Quinta dos Vales here in the Algarve, is one of a wide range of rosés made by this producer in different price ranges and one of their premium pinks.

It is a blend of Aragonês and Touriga Franca which seems to have benefited from a few years of bottle ageing.

On the nose, there are mature red fruits and a slight spiciness that suggests a hint of oak but no, it saw only stainless-steel during fermentation and prolonged skin contact. In the mouth, the wine is medium bodied and dry with a slightly creamy texture. All in all, harmonious and elegant, an ideal partner for richly-flavoured fish and seafood dishes such as a tasty cataplana or even a spicy curry.
