This Portuguese language film premiered at the 2008 New York Film Festival and is an adaptation of the 1987 novel by Agustina Bessa Luís.
The film charts a multi-generational wealthy family living on the island of Madeira, and the obsession of one of the young women in the family with the story of a mysterious and distant relative who caused scandal in the family.
