During a visit to the Algarve on September 7, H M British Ambassador to Portugal, Jill Gallard spent an hour at the Refúgio Aboim Ascenção children’s home in Faro. The Ambassador was joined by Dr. Luís Villas-Boas, who runs the home dedicated to Portuguese and foreign infants and young children at risk across the Algarve. For the past 30 years, the Refúgio has used a specialised model of care, designed specifically for children in emergency situations, a model that has received many awards,including the prestigious Diana Princess of Wales Award in 1998.
