90% of the roughly 400,000 people already vaccinated in Portugal developed antibodies to the ‘new coronavirus’ after their first dose.
This is the conclusion of a study by the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (Gulbenkian science Institute) evaluating the immunity of 1200 health professionals who received their jabs over the course of the last month.
Says the study, 9 out of 10 developed an immune response to SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19) within three weeks.
Final data from the study will be published later this month, says SIC television news – but the study will stay in place for another year at least to evaluate the long-term protection afforded with vaccination – particularly aspects like whether the vaccines really do stop transmission, or whether they only protect against people developing serious illness.
