88-year-old woman “battered to death with walking stick” in old people’s home

A 69-year-old woman under psychiatric care has battered her 88-year-old roomate to death with what appears to have been a walking stick in an Alentejan old people’s home.

The reason, claim initial reports, lies in “a disagreement over the Sunday game between Marítimo and Benfica” football clubs.

For now, the alleged killer has not been named. The attack happened on Sunday night, at “around 11pm”. GNR police are investigating.

CM adds that the “aggressor” is a long-term resident of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia home in Ourique who is accompanied by the psychiatric service of Beja Hospital.

Her victim, Mariana Vitória, was a local woman who had lived “many years close to Ourique” though came originally from Santiago de Cacém.
