86,000 families in Portugal to start repaying mortgages from tomorrow

Today is the last day of Portugal’s pandemic-led banking moratoria. According to reports, 86,000 families will have to return to repaying mortgage instalments as of tomorrow. Consumer rights association DECO has sounded the alarm, but until repayments start again, it is unclear how the situation will develop. According to Mário Centeno, governor of the Bank of Portugal, 50% of families have actually seen their household incomes increase during this latest period of lockdown.
