Three infraction notices for drug consumption were also drawn up during the inspection.
Several inspections in the municipalities of Aljezur and Vila do Bispo detected 80 violations of illegal caravanning on Monday, September 18, announced the National Republican Guard (GNR).
These inspections were promoted by Faro’s Territorial Command via the Portimão Territorial Detachment. The operations focused mainly on the Southwest Alentejano and Costa Vicentina Natural Park to detect infractions for overnight stays and illegal parking in unauthorised locations.
Three infraction notices were also drawn up during the inspections for drug consumption.
“Illegal or irregular camping and caravanning in a protected area can lead to the excessive and disorderly occupation of public spaces, coastal areas and areas classified for motorhomes and similar vehicles, with negative consequences for the landscape, the environment, land use and public health”, says the GNR in a statement, adding, “The GNR will continue to encourage caravanists and campers to adopt responsible and environmentally friendly behaviour, especially in these protected areas.
