At a time when the number of people participating in sport is on the wane, Walking Football for the over 50s is gaining in popularity. There are now four groups operating on a weekly basis in the Algarve – in Lagos, Vilamoura, Olhão and Tavira.
Last week the Soccer Olhanense Strollers SOS (incorporating the Tavira Old Floundering Footballers TOFFS) welcomed their 50th summer visitor.
Simon Rudd from Bishop Auckland, County Durham was presented with a commemorative bottle of wine to mark the occasion.
Despite the high temperatures, both Olhão and Tavira have been averaging 25 players per session. www.walkingfootballalgarve.com
