A new explanation as to why Portuguese drivers have such a bad reputation for accidents has come into the latest report on sleep patterns. Apparently, almost 50% of Portuguese do not sleep more than six hours per night, and 40% have difficulty staying awake at the wheel. These worrying statistics have been released by the Portuguese societies for Pneumology and Work Medicine, and follow others suggesting exactly the same.
The bottom line is that nationals go to sleep ‘much too late’, and even then can take over half an hour to finally nod off.
Consequently, they perform poorly during the day, with 40% also testifying to “have difficulty” staying awake whatever they are meant to be doing.
