|| Thousands of motorbike enthusiasts will be flocking to the Algarve yet again for the 34th edition of Faro’s famous bikers’ rally, taking place between this Thursday and Sunday (June 16-19).
The event, held at Vale das Almas near Faro Airport, will feature a long list of entertainment, including motorbike parades and shows, concerts and competitions.
English rock band The Stranglers – which emerged in the UK punk rock scene in the late 70s – will be headlining the event, featuring hits like ‘Always the Sun’, ‘La Folie’ and ‘Golden Brown’.
Tribute bands to rock legends Guns N’ Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers will also take part, as well as a number of national and Spanish acts such as Blind Zero and Los Suaves.
Bikers will also be happy to hear that police have promised to take on a “tamer” stance this year, after many criticised the authorities’ repressive attitude last year.
“All agreed that the central issue is security and prevention,” Faro mayor Rogério Bacalhau said earlier this year, adding that police will continue to monitor the event, but without “constantly making bikers stop and holding excessive roadside checks”.
Tickets for the event’s four days cost €45 and give visitors a chance to win a “new motorbike and a weekend in Daytona, USA”.
This year tickets are also being sold for Saturday and Sunday only, costing €30.
