An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale was felt on the Azores island of Faial early this morning. Aaccording to the Azores Seismic Information and Surveillance Centre (CIVISA), the earthquake was recorded at 02:27 local time (03:27 in Lisbon) with its epicentre around 40 kms to the west-northwest of Capelo, on the island of Faial. “According to the information available so far, the earthquake was felt with a maximum intensity of III (Modified Mercalli scale) in the parish of Cedros (municipality of Horta),” said the statement. The area has been in seismic crisis for some time now.
