3.6 million euros ploughed into “Operation Safe Forest 2016”

A total of €3.6 million is being ploughed into “Operação Floresta Segura 2016” by three government ministries in a concerted bid to secure Portugal’s forests. Two million euros is coming from the permanent forestry fund – set up to combat fires – while the rest is coming from the budgets of agriculture, internal administration and forestry and rural development. 924 men and women are employed under the operation as forest watchers.
