A total of 3.5 million doses of cocaine has been discovered hidden among seven tons of tropical fruit imported to Portugal from Latin America by air. PJ police assisted by customs inspectors apprehended the haul in an operation dubbed “Exotic Fruit”. Two Portuguese nationals and three foreigners have been detained, as well as diverse vehicles, mobile phones, cash and documentation “with relevance of proof of the facts in investigation”, said a statement released by the PJ today. The suspects, due to be submitted to initial questioning, are believed to be members of a “criminal organisation dedicated to the importation of large quantities of cocaine into Europe and their subsequent distribution to diverse countries”.
