Earthquake “caused fright and alarm” – IPMA
Residents in various northern boroughs were rocked by an earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter Scale this morning.
According to IPMA meteorological institute, people described the incident as “like a bomb.
“We have reports from people who felt it”, a source told Lusa. “It caused fright and alarm”, but as of mid-morning there were no reports of any damages or personal injuries.
The quake hit at 7.51am, with an epicentre localised close to 20 kms east-northeast of Pampilhosa da Serra.
It was felt, says IPMA, by populations in the boroughs of Covilhã (Castelo Branco), Oliveira do Hospital, Pampilhosa da Serra and Vila Nova de Poiares (Coimbra) and “with less intensity in Tondela (Viseu)”.
The Richter Scale measurement translates into III/IV on the modified Mercalli Scale.
