24-hour classic car marathon at Portimão racetrack

If you are a fan of good-old pre-war automobiles, you are in for a treat as a 24-hour marathon of classic cars driving around the Portimão racetrack is scheduled for this weekend, starting at 3pm on Saturday (October 4).
British organiser Benjafield’s Racing Club says: “To celebrate the 90th Anniversary of Bentley’s first victory at Le Mans, ‘Benjafield’s 24’ provides a unique opportunity to relive the adrenalin fuelled days of the rolling 20s and 30s”.
As we went to press, the complete list of cars taking part in the event had yet to be confirmed, but organisers guaranteed there will certainly be some nice examples of pre-war Bentleys.
One of the goals, Benjafield adds, is to recreate the “historic spirit and sportsmanship of international endurance”, with the “sights, smells and sounds all adding to the atmosphere”. “Being staged as a non-competitive event, the aim is to celebrate the achievements of the early pioneers of motor sport and to relive the magic of the original races of the 20s and 30s,” the organiser added.
Tickets cost €5.
A gala dinner and award ceremony for participants will follow at 7pm on Sunday at Vila Vita Parc in Porches, one of the event’s supporters.
